It should work nicely with any user folder. You can add members from the site to a workgroup. But omly "real" members.
But you cannot assign a group to the workgroup and the have individual members show up as members of the workgroup.
As it is now, it uses the membership tool in Plone. It bypasses the acl_users folder entirely. So any user folder that can work with the membership tool should function. If it doesn't, it would not work in Plone either ...
GRUF and Groups

I think it would be nice to be able to Assign a GRUF 'Group' of members to a particular 'Workgroup'. As this is how we currently do it. (local security settings for a group that are members of that folder) Then in plone an admin could add a user to a GRUF Group and he would then me a member of the sites that that group is a member of. It's a nice easy way to do permissions.
